GRACE WANJIRA

UPENDO JUNIOR SCHOOL

STD 7

My name of Grace Wanjira. I am thirteen years old. I was born on 11th August 2008 in Kiminini town within Trans Nzoia County. I am the last born in a family of seven. I have four brothers. My mother is beautiful and caring. My father is very hardworking and does what he can for us despite the hurdles. Our parents provide for us basic needs. They do not discriminate against any of us.

My first school was Senah Mount Zion Academy, Kiminini. I remember my first teacher was called Teacher Priscah. She taught me how to read and write in English. I then transferred to Upendo Junior School when Senah was closed down by the Ministry of Education as it had no proper facilities for learning. I was really happy to come to Upendo as the school is friendly, teachers are loving, hardworking and caring. I have really improved in my studies ever since I came to this school. great post to read

My dream is to become a dependable flying doctor in the future. I want to help save people’s lives wherever they are and whether poor or rich. I would like to join Alliance Girls High School when I sit my Std 8 here at Upendo next year. This will give me a chance to do well and go to a University abroad.

Although my parents and my teachers are very supportive and understanding, I face a few challenges as a pupil. I walk a long distance from home to school as Upendo has no School Van. My parents are not able to hire a motorbike to drop me to school and pick me up in the evening. And once at home I have to help my mother with house chores as I am the only girl in the family. I hardly have enough time to do my homework and we do not have electricity at home. Another problem is that I do not have enough textbooks for my homework such as Mathematics, English, Kiswahili and Science. We are not allowed to carry school textbooks home. But am doing my best and am among the best pupils in my class.
When I am free, I like reading story books, and gardening. I don’t like being lazy. I do my best with what I have as a lazy girl blames her tools. I like sports too but our school doesn’t have enough fields for sports such as netball and volleyball.
